There’s early … Then there’s sparrows’ fart! That’s what Ash says. And “sparrows’ fart” is how early we tend to get up to catch our flights when traveling. Our flight out tomorrow morning leaves at 7am. So we have to be at the airport by 5am, which means awake at 3:30am and out the door by 4:30am.
We’ve tried saying “We have everything together and can get up and walk out the door in 15 minutes!” It has NEVER worked out … Between loading our bags, brushing our teeth, taking care of the chickens, dogs, the cat and the fish, double checking that we have passports, keys, wallets, etc … 15 minutes is never enough. So, we’re giving ourselves an hour this time. Fingers crossed it’s enough!
We also usually plan to grab some coffee and something to eat either on the way to the airport, or after we’ve gotten checked in and through TSA. Which route we pick with that totally depends on 1. What’s going to be open along our route and 2. How quickly we ACTUALLY get out the door. If we fly out from home (Kansas City) We know the food options at MCI (our closest airport) are very limited. However, they do have a Starbucks for that caffeine pick-me-up and a little grab-and-go snack shop in most terminals. So there’s always something if we’re desperate. If we have connecting flights, we know there will be more options as we go, so sometimes we just plan to nap on the first flight and eat before the next.
An early morning is a small price to pay to be on a hot, sunny, sandy beach by 4pm tomorrow. Remember that next time you’re planning your trip! Grab the first flight out you can, deal with the early morning, and get to your paradise!
